As the leaves start to change colors and the air turns crisper, that can only mean one thing - fall has arrived! And what better way to embrace the season than by taking a trip to a picturesque orchard? This fall I had the pleasure of taking my little guy to Peifer Orchard for a day of apple picking, pumpkin picking, indulging in hot dogs, sipping on delicious apple cider, and enjoying their fall activities.
Our first stop was the apple orchard. Armed with baskets and a genuine sense of excitement, my son and I set off to pick our own apples. This was a first for us, and he was eager to help, carefully selecting the ripest and shiniest apples (within his reach). Watching his face light up each time he successfully plucked an apple from a tree was a heartwarming experience. Being a fairly picky eater, fruits and vegetables aren't usually something he eats willingly - however a Honeycrisp apple is by far at the top of his list of favorite snacks. So we spent most of our time in the row of trees offering his most-liked apple.
After filling our baskets with apples, we took our wagon and headed to the pumpkin patch. We wandered through the field with delight, searching for the perfect pumpkin to take home. It was a joy to watch him carefully inspect each pumpkin, trying to decide on which one would become his Halloween masterpiece. Much to our delight, the pumpkin patch was nearest their field of beautiful sunflowers. I just couldn't resist. Equipped with my camera, and my son his phone, together we found ourselves competing for who can capture the prettiest bloom of the season.
From the thrill of apple and pumpkin picking to exploring the market for treats to take home, watching my son's enthusiasm for apples grow was the sweetest reward of all. As autumn continues to unfold, we look forward to more adventures and opportunities to nourish our love for the simple pleasures of the season.
